Clinic Times: The Clinic operates on weekdays and evenings by appointment.
Other Info: "The Family Therapy and Counselling Clinic was established to provide a professional counselling service for individuals, families and groups in northern Brisbane and surrounding areas. It serves as a teaching and supervision facility for postgraduate QUT students and for professional workers such as doctors, social workers, psychologists, guidance officers, welfare workers etc.
Training Resources-Methods of Working The Clinic is a centre for counselling training and research and consequently uses up-to-date methods of practice. These methods often involve the observation of sessions (behind one-way glass) by a small team of professional staff or counsellors in training who discuss their observations with the clients and/or counsellor. This allows those behind the glass to consult and create ideas for assisting the individual or family and minimises the possibility that important events and issues will be missed. Sessions may also be video taped for professional review and supervision. These methods are important in contemporary counselling practice and teaching and are used by most innovative family therapy centres around the world.
Clients attending the Clinic will be informed about the conduct of their sessions and their permission sought before proceeding. Confidentiality is fundamental to the Clinic's operation. Counselling will be considered successful when family members or individuals feel empowered to explore new ways of dealing with their concerns, thus reducing or resolving the problem."
Costs: Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on combined family income. The minimum charge is $22.00 (incl GST) and the maximum charge is $82.50 (incl GST). Special arrangements may be considered for clients unable to afford the usual level of fees.

2 February 2004.   RFDS spreads its wings to Longreach
The Royal Flying Doctor Service will spread its services to Longreach in April following a federal government funding agreement to auspice a mental health service for people in the central west.
This major development came following the announcement that the RFDS has been chosen to facilitate a new Australian Government funded mental health service under the Department of Health and Ageing Regional Health Services Program.
RFDS Senior Allied Health Officer Mr Robert Williams said, “The Matilda Regional Health Service (Matilda RHS) will commence in early April and will focus on improving the provision of mental health services.”
Mr Williams said the project will target the shires of Longreach, Winton, Aramac, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Blackall, Barcaldine, Jericho and Tambo.  The key focus for the Matilda RHS will be to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of people in the central west and improve coordination of services across this area.

COUNTRY ACCOMMODATION

PLEASE NOTE This webpage is a work in progress. It is designed to help the men (and women) of Queensland. I can give no guarentee that it is either complete or totally accurate. It's just the best I have been able to do.

Some of these courses have already started but I have left the information on to give you an idea what is entailed in a course.

If the course has begun contact the organization to see when the next course starts and remember you will probably
be able to speak one-on-one to a counselor at that organization regardless of whether the course has started.

I will try to keep this page up-to-date but essentially the onus is on you to make your own enquiries.  As well, never having done any of these courses or seen any of these counselling organisations, I cannot personally vouch for any of them...but I would be interested in your feedback.

To help other Queensland men please advise me if any information on this page is incorrect in any way or if you have information about a counselling organisation or new course please send your information to me at mikven@powerup.com.au

Finally I hope this page helps you and your loved ones.

Mike
